Deford Scores First Ever Modified Win at CCSSpringport, MI-The WIBM 1450 AM MI Modifieds hit the track for their 25 lap feature. Fast qualifier, Justin Kazmar, sat ninth on the grid and at the drop of the green, it was newcomer, Jeff Reamer, into the lead followed by Bill Engle, Jon Deford, Dave Goostrey, and Jim Butler. Lap five saw Leroy Ellis enter the top five, while Butler worked on Deford for second. Jason Parish worked his way into fourth, with Ellis challenging Parish on the high side. Deford moved into the lead on lap 10, leaving the rest of the top eight running nose to tail. Deford checked out on the field by lap 15, with Parish trying the outside of Goostrey for third. Deford never looked back, and by lap 22, Kazmar had moved into fourth, with Earl Miles challenging Goostrey for the fifth spot. Deford, Parish, Reamer, Kazmar, and Goostrey made up the top five at the finish. Bill Butler and Bill Engle scored heat wins. The CARQUEST Racing series continued on Kelly Fuels Night at Calhoun County Speedway, bringing Super Pro series action. Fast qualifier Mark Kortz, started inside row four for the start of the 50-lap feature. Jake Louden jumped out to the early lead, and held down first for the remainder of the 50 laps. Jack Landis, Brent Hook, Kortz, and Logan Beckwith battles amongst themselves for second through fifth, with Hook claiming second over Landis on lap 10. Caution on lap 30 closed up the field and on the restart, it was Louden driving away from the rest of the pack. On lap 36, Kortz made a run on Landis and grabbed third. Mike Carter was looking to drive into the top five and made his way around Beckwith on lap 45. At the line, it was Louden, Hook, Kortz, Landis, and Carter rounding out the top five. Twenty laps of Performance NW Street Stock racing saw Ben Hidy, the fast qualifier, starting eighth in the field. On the start, it was a sprint for the front, with Ron Heeney taking the high road to grab first from his sixth starting spot. Heeney led until lap seven when he was issued a speeding ticket for running under his qualifiying time. Ben Hidy assumed the lead, with brother Landon, Jake Huey, Rich Kinch, and Dale Lewis making up the top five. They would cross the finish line in that order as well. The heat win went to Landon Hidy. The B&L Truck Caps Pony Stocks fast qualifier, Kenny Clark, started tenth, and Clark made his way up to fifth by lap two. Mike Putnam, Clark, and Jason Huey made it a three-wide battle for fourth in turn four. Lap five had Willie Conroy showing the way and he and Clark swapped the lead a number of times until Clark took over for good on lap 10. Lap 11 saw a four-way battle for third shaping up while Clark and Conroy opened up a pretty good lead on the rest of the field. Jimmy Scavarda made his way into the top five and after a caution on lap 13, made a sprint for the front. At the checker on lap 15, it was Clark, Conroy, Scavarda, Huey, and Putnam. Putnam and Clark took the heat wins. |
