Kortz Scores Super Pro Win at CCSSpringport, MI-The Super Pro Late Models ran their 50-lap feature on CARQUEST Night at Calhoun County Speedway. Fast Qualifier, Mark Kortz, was slated to start on the inside of the fifth row and at the green, pole sitter, Brent Hook, jumped out to lead lap one. He held that lead for 21 laps. Hook proceeded to run away from the field as Jack Landis and Mark Kortz made their move to the front of the field. Landis grabbed the lead on lap 22 when Hook got loose coming out of turn two. Landis, Kortz, and Jake Louden slipped under Hook as he tried to gather up the racecar. Kortz went to work on Landis' rear bumper and got a fender under Landis to take the lead on lap 27. Kortz led the next 23 laps and on lap 50, it was Kortz, Landis, Louden, Logan Beckwith, and Hook coming home as the top five. The MCR Dwarfs motored their way around the big 3/8-mile in Springport, with fast qualifier, Chad Goff, starting "lucky" 13th. On the start, it was Larry Dolbee into the lead, and he showed the way for the first seven laps. Eric Hoffman made the pass for first on Dolbee on lap eight, with Goff moving into the fifth spot. Goff drove into the lead on lap 15 and a late caution set up the top three for a five-lap dash to the finish. At the stripe, it was Goff, Hoff, man, Dolbee, Mike McManman, and Jeff Slayton. Heat wins went to Craig Meyers, Israel Wood, and Mike McManman Jr. The WIBM 1450 AM MI Modifieds fast qualifier, Jason Parish, started on the outside of row five for the "Mod Squad" 25-lap feature. Kevin McPherson was the lap one leader and led through lap 20 with Leroy Ellis tacked firmly on his rear bumper, looking for a way around him. Fighting an ill-handling race car, McPherson drifted high in turn two and Mike Gaier, who had worked his way up to second from sixth, ducked under McPherson, while Ellis followed Gaier into second on lap 21. Dave Goostrey and Mike Wells figured into the mix, while Jim Butler and Jason Parish battled side by side for a number of laps for the seventh position. On lap 23, Wells went to work on Goostrey for the fourth spot. On lap 25, it was Gaier, Ellis, McPherson, Goostrey, and Wells making up the top five, with Ellis and Butler taking heat wins. Thirteen pony stocks galloped their way around CCS, with three-wide racing in the middle of the pack after the drop of the green. TJ Conroy led the charge and went on to capture his first ever feature win. Jimmy Scavarda bolted toward the front from his eighth starting position, with Trei Deubel and Mike Putnam in tow. Jason Huey broke into the top five as laps wound down. At the checkered flag, it was TJ Conroy, Scavarda, Deubel, Putnam, and Huey. Heat winners were TJ Conroy and Deubel.
