Ben Hidy Strikes Again at CCSSpringport, MI . The thirteen-car field of Performance NW Street Stocks took the green and it was a sprint to the front. Ron Heeney made the charge from his tenth spot on the grid, while Landon and Ben Hidy followed suit from eleventh and twelfth, respectively. Heeney clinched the top spot on lap five followed by B. Hidy, Joe Barnhart, Rich Kinch, and L. Hidy. Heeney had opened up a big lead by lap 10, but B. Hidy closed in along with brother, L. Hidy. Heeney and B. Hidy played cat and mouse with B. Hidy trying the pass both high and low. Pat Dent and Chris Gay joined the top five on lap 15. After a 14-lap battle for first, Heeney got loose and B. Hidy made a last lap pass to take the checker. L. Hidy, Dent, and Gay rounded out the top five with Barnhart and Heeney taking heat wins.Fast qualifier, Kenny Clark, started shotgun on the field for the B&L Truck Caps Pony Stock feature. 82 year old, Art Kimball and Brent McCort started on the front row with Art Kimball taking the early lead. Art opened up a sizeable lead before receiving the black flag on lap five for running under his qualifying time. Jason Huey took over the lead followed by Scott Sigman, Jimmy Scavarda, TJ Conroy, and Kenny Clark. Clark dropped to the low side and executed a two-car pass for second and by lap eight, had assumed the lead. Scavarda made the inside work for him and grabbed second, while Clark opened up a straight away lead. At the checker, it was Clark, Scavarda, Huey, Sigman, and Conroy. A seventeen car field of WIBM 1450 AM MI Modifieds saw fast qualifier, Earl Miles starting on the outside of row 6. Dick Maurer and Gilbert Little brought the field to the green with Maurer, the first lap leader. Maurer was checking out on the field by lap five with Mike Gaier and Jim Butler moving up through the field. Little got hung out to dry as Gaier, Butler, and Jason Parish made their way past him. The battle was on for first with Butler making the pass on Gaier for the lead on Lap 14. Justin Kazmar flirted with the top five by looking to the outside of Dave Goostrey. Butler opened up a lead over Gaier and Parish as Kazmar made the pass on Maurer for fourth. Lap 20 had Gaier and Parish battling for second, while Perry Davenport made his way around Maurer to move into the top five. At the finish, it was Butler, Gaier, Parish, Kazmar, and Maurer. Heat winners were Maurer and Gaier. Nineteen Super Lates made their way to Calhoun County Speedway, with Dave Stehouwer setting the mark with a qualifying time of 14.813. Stehouwer elected to start at the tail of the field for the feature with Darel Woolsey and newcomer, Kale Asztalos making up the front row. The early leader was Asztalos followed by Woolsey, Bill Heeney Jr., Jim Davis, and Harry Foote Jr. An altercation between turns 1 and 2 collected Stan Perry, Tom Klopp, Brian Huntley, Mark Kortz, and Jack Landis. Mechanical problems put Asztalos on the hook, and a caution for Kortz sent Woolsey into the turn 3-4 wall. Lap 10 saw five-car battle shaping up for first between Heeney, Perry, John Dunivon, Brent Jack, and Jeff Hackworth with Landis closing in on the top five by lap 15. Jack advanced to third under Dunivon out of turn four and was reeling in Perry and Heeney. Two three-car battles for first between Heeney, Perry, and Jack and for fourth between Foote Jr., Landis, and Hackworth set the stage for the finish with Hackworth finishing just outside the top five. Heat winners were Heeney Jr. and Foote Jr. The staff of CCS is pleased to announce the addition of Lyndsay Ward, as the "Director of Fun". Spartan Speedway held a hulahoop contest with some of the drivers competing against members of the audience, while Calhoun County Speedway held a tug of war contest featuring drivers vs. fans.
