Open Invitational Rules

Rules for any class listed in the schedule as an Invitational during the 2008 season

General Rules for all Classes

  • Track registration is not required.
  • Driver must meet the minimum age requirement listed in the Spartan/SMS rulebook.
  • Cars must meet all safety requirements as listed in the Spartan/SMS rulebook.
  • Drivers must also wear proper safety attire as listed in the rulebook.
  • Cars must be equipped with mufflers and must not exceed the noise levels outlined in the rulebook.

Street Stock Slugfest Rules

The Slugfest is intended for Sportsman and Street Stock drivers from other area tracks to come and compete against the Spartan/SMS regulars. It's intended as a fun competition between all drivers involved.
  • Spartan/SMS Sportsman cars are permitted.
  • Regularly recognized Sportsman and Street Stock cars from other tracks are also permitted provided they are built similarly to Spartan/SMS Sportsmans and follow similar rules.
  • Cars must be stock appearing. No Super Late Model (outlaw) type bodies allowed.
  • Frames MUST meet the Spartan/SMS Sportsman rules.
  • The 5 inch frame clearance measurement is not enforced. Cars may be lowered to 4 inches if desired.
  • Weight may be added if the car doesn't fit the Sportsman rules.
  • American Racer D265/60, Hoosier 970, and Hoosier 880 tires are permitted.
  • Some cars will simply not be allowed. If you're not sure, call first.

Pure Stock Open and Pure Stock Figure 8 Rules

If your are a pure stock, bomber, or lead sled at your track, you are legal here with the following exceptions.....
  • Tires
    • 70 series tires allowed 8" rims
    • 60 and 65 series tires must run 7" rims
  • Weight
    • 350 CID or less - 3400 lbs. with driver after race
    • 350 CID or more - 3550 lbs. with driver after race.

Track Tech officials will be allowed to make weight adjustments as necessary. Track Tech officials decisions are final.

4-Cylinder Open Rules

The 4-cylinder Open events at Spartan/SMS not only allows rear-wheel drive 4-cylinder cars to come and compete against the Spartan/SMS regulars, but it also allows the regulars to do a few things to their cars that they are normally not allowed to do.
  • D.O.T. treaded radial tire 8" max tread width (no Hoosiers or McCrearys)
  • Stock appearing bodies
  • FWD weight: 2350 post-race w/driver (Neons included)
  • RWD weight: 2500 post-race w/driver
  • No exhaust size limit
  • Rear spoilers allowed 6" maximum height.
  • Flat aluminum front spoiler is allowed.
  • If used, front spoiler must be mounted under and behind the leading edge of the nose or front bumper.
  • Must maintain 3" ground clearance to front spoiler.
  • Front spoiler must be narrower than the front bumper.
  • 8 valve engines only (Neon SOHC is only exception)
  • Factory Fuel injection or stock carburetors only.
  • The only carb exception allowed is the 2-bbl 7448 350 cfm Holley.
  • Headers are allowed.
